The daughter of Professor K.R.M.T. Karunaratna complains against Minister Bandula Gunawardena saying that he had given a wrong information in parliament that her father passed away as a result of the verdict given by the judiciary against him over the preparation of the method.
The elder daughter of the Professor, Mrs. Madusha Wickramaarachchi says that the statement that Minister Bandula Gunawardena made in parliament in relation to the death of her father in June this year was false and that he actually died of a lung ailment.
Towards the end of October the Education Minister mentioned in parliament that having been disappointed over the verdict given by the judiciary against the Z-score method the Professor passed away with a broken heart. She says that this was reported in a number of media and that her father died of a natural lung ailment and not from a heart ailment as the Minister says. She confirmed this by forwarding his death certificate. She also emphasised that Minister Bandula Gunawardena has on purpose expressed false information by hiding behind the curtain of privileges of parliament and that what is indicated in the death certificate is a natural cause of pulmonary embolism. She further stated that because of the statement made by the Minister, hiding behind parliamentary privileges, members of her family are not in a position to take any legal action and in addition they are personally facing a situation of great inconvenience with their friends and relations making telephone inquiries about the Minister's statement; thus the closet relatives of the family being faced with worry.
The Minister of Education Mr. Bandula Gunawardena expressed in parliament that the verdict given by former Chief Justice that the Z-score method was wrong and quoted the scholarly committee which was appointed He further stated that the death of the committee passed away from a broken heart because of the verdict given by Mrs. Shirani Bandaranaike.
Mr. Jayantha Ketagoda, m.p. of the Democratic National Alliance stated that on Thursday (Oct 28) that Minister Bandula Gunawardena had expressed false information about the death of the professor concerned. However, the Minister in response had once again repeated the same comment he had made earlier, for the second time.
