Manageress files action for having been disgraced with words of .....
'Good morning ... patta kella'
An attractive girl serving in a private establishment down St.Anthony's Road, Colpetty in the capacity of a manageress had been walking towards a car park last Monday in the company of her fiance when 3 young men had stopped the couple and had cast offensive remarks at them in public.
These men had used nasty remarks and poked fun at the girl saying "Ah ... good morning nangi .... you are a patta kella no ...."and when the couple had tried to make a reaction to their remarks, these young men had even prevented them from getting into their vehicle thereby creating an unnecessary problem for them. The manageress had actually gone to her place of employment that day and had come out of her vehicle to go to attend a training workshop as a requirement of her employment.
At that moment though she had walked towards the car park with her fiance, on the way they had been accosted by these 3 young men who had not been aware that she was with her fiance; instead they had thought that it was another boy who had been walking on the same road. It was found that these young men who had cast these remarks were residents were living down the same road. She had mentioned that at the time they had asked "Oya patta kellak neda?" there had been others on the road and among them were workers in her own firm; but she had walked away with a smile.
She also mentioned that when she and her fiance had tried to react against the words of these 3 men, they had resorted to putting the couple into great embarassment which had resulted in all her work getting muddled up because of the mental pressure she went through.
The manageress had gone to Colpetty police station to complain about this incident and the 3 young men by the names of Harshana Ranatunga, Gihan Rodrigo and Rohan Perera were taken into custody.
Subsequently, after being produced before courts in Colombo Fort, Mr.Thilina Gamage, Fort Magistrate and Addl. District Judge inquired about the matter and fixed a date for the case to be heard while the 3 young men were released on bail on a personal bond of Rs.1 lakh each.
