Minister in shorts at Nawaloka to see son

Investigations are still underway about the attack on Public Relations Minister Mr.Mervyn Silva's son Malaka Silva at the Odel car park yesterday.

What Malaka said was that when he was coming out with his girl friend after shopping at Odel, a gang of about 10 or 12 had come and attacked him. Though a witness who saw the vehicle in which they came, WPAI 5213, had noted it down; but what had been revealed by police investigations was that was a duplicate faked number which was made to look similar to a number of the security unit of the President.

The gang who approached him had asked, "Is it you who is Malaka .... we have a deal to settle ... let's go ..." and then on assaulting him had tried to take him away. He had been badly beaten with bottles and shoes directed at his head and face.

They had kept on beating Malaka Silva with a bottle from the car park yard in the possession of a security guard.

Blood was spilt all over the tarred car park road after the attack and Malaka had sustained injuries to his head and face. Though his girl friend too had been in his company at the time, nu injury had been caused to her. Later, those who were responsible for this attack had fled and Malaka had tried to go alone to the hospital. In the process he had spoken to his father and the latter was in a pair of shorts at that time and he had told Malaka not to drive the vehicle but to stay where he was. The Minister had promptly come there and taken the son to Nawaloka Hospital.

Because of this, the media on coming to know about this incident had gone to the hospital premises, and at that time the Minister had been in a pair of shorts.

After Malaka was subjected to a special scan check at Nawaloka Hospital, he was directed to the ICU for further treatment.

Hospital sources said that his condition was not serious and later informed that there were many bruises and stitches had been applied on the wound close to his right eye only.

Since the referred to incident had been recorded on CCTV cameras fixed at the Odel premises, police said that they had launched a wide-scale inquiry through that evidence.

It is reported that Kurunduwatta police and 2 special teams are conducting further inquiries in this connection.
