Grade 1 schoolboy who got into wrong van by mistake
left high and dry on roadside
Certain incidents that can be heard these days leaves a question mark on the values of people. A grade 1 schoolboy who was waiting to go home had got into the wrong vehicle , and when spotted by workers in the van had left the boy high and dry on the roadside. He was finally rescued by people in the area as reported yesterday. The boy was from a school in Gampola.
The worker in the vehicle who had noticed that a wrong passenger was in the van, had shouted at the boy as to why he had got into his van and subsequently had pushed him out. He had not even had the decency to help the child find his way back home.
The boy who had burst into tears was walking along the Gampola - Nawalapitiya road drenched by rain when a person in that area who had noticed that he was about to get knocked down by a passing vehicle had rescued the boy and had come to know of the boy's ordeal only after inquiring the circumstances from the boy. Later, the people in the area had come to know that the boy was studying in an international school from his school tie and clothes and by about 3 p.m. he had been handed back to his school. The boy who was a resident of Ganga Ihala Korale in Kurunduwatta area had been regularly going to school in a school-van. Unfortunately the boy has been unable to distinguish between two vans of the same colour and had got into the wrong vehicle. The child having been driven out of the vehicle not being familiar with the whereabouts of the area had got drenched from the rain and had been loitering for quite some time when he was fortunately rescued by those in the area.
Parents of the child had lodged an entry in this connection with the Gampola Police. A police team is conducting an inquiry into the matter.
