DR.JAYALATH JAYAWARDENA PASSES AWAY

Parliament member Jayalath Jayawardena
passes away in Singapore

    UNP parliament member passed away in Singapore in a hospital this morning around 3 o'clock. Dr.Jayalath who had been under treatment for ailing conditions in the past conditions had been residentially hospitalised.

   Mr.Jayawardena who was a medical practitioner by profession had belonged to a business family. He had launched himself into politics at the time he functioned as the the private doctor of the President Janadhipathi Premadasa. He was elected to parliament from the UNP ticket in the year 1994. Mr.Jayawardena who was a senior Opposition Member of the parliament often participated in political debates.

    In order to popularise medical science he had for a number of years presented various programmes through the media and wrote columns for the press.

   Mr. Jayawardena who was born on the 16th of August in 1953 was of the age of 59 at the time of his death.
