POLICE CAN'T GET ASSAULTED - DIG VAAS

     DIG Colombo North, Mr.Vaas Gunawardena speaking at a festival held in Mirigama a few days ago spoke about the information that the police are being assaulted these days. Ideas expressed on that occasion by him is as follows:

  "Now there is a wave going around something .... assaulting the police yesterday. I spoke to the officers and told them .... hereafter no police officer can be subject to assault .... gave weapons to their hands .... not just weapons only .... with about 20, 20 bullets in them. Because the police is the only place where the public can go and tell their woes. If that is a police that gets hammered, then only god's help for the public! The police must be straight .... must enforce the law correctly. The person who is like that still gets hammered by an outsider, that OIC or Asst.OIC  must leave my Division. If any such thing happens again, the weapon has been given. If that fellow is not fired at .... then that will be the problem!"
