DUMINDA APPEARS IN COURT

     Parliament member Duminda Silva appeared in Colombo Magistrates Courts today for the first time and dressed in a white shirt with trousers. Though he had been treated at the ICU in Nawaloka Hospital, there were no signs of a sickness. The courts reporter said that he had a somewhat limping nature while walking.

    His lawyer Hemantha Warnakulasooriya had expressed in the presence of Colombo Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage that after Mr.Duminda Silva was given bail from High Courts, the complainant party was spreading false rumours resulting in contempt of court and that it also reflects an insult on Duminda Silva too. Mr.Warnakulasooriya told in courts that he would take action on the unfounded allegations against his client. He expressed these points through a motion brought forward by producing Duminda Silva to courts for the first time. The lawyer forwarded a lengthy description for close upon 2 hours about the sick conditions that Duminda has undergone upto now sine the Bharatha Lakshman murder incident. Duminda took position in courts obtaining permission to listen to the proceedings drawing attention to his health condition and that he is not in a position to stand in the dock; although actually this was not the norm. Hirunika Premachandra was not present in courts today and only her mother was present. It was mentioned in courts that legal action would be filed against Hirunika because of the statements expressed against Duminda.

     An attempt by the media to record a statement from Duminda was futile because he was escorted away, avoiding the media.

    The Magistrate case was put off for May 08th.

     It is reported at this moment that Duminda Silva has arrived at the Aluthkade Courts Complex where the Bharatha Murder Case is to be held. This is the first time when he would be appearing in courts for this Case.

    Having left Nawaloka Hospital being bailed out after the request made by Duminda's father was considered on the grounds that Duminda had recovered because of a miracle has expressed to the media that he would be engaging in politics once more.

    In the meantime while there were allegations targeted at Duminda from various quarters to the effect that what he did was a hoax, had got himself admitted once again to the ICU at Nawaloka Hospital saying that he had suddenly got sick on Saturday.

    Later, having been transferred yesterday to a normal ward, he has recovered to attend courts today morning.

    The Case is expected to be taken up for hearing at about 10.15 a.m.
