Chandrika Cumaranatunge received a special advantage in votes because she was the wife of popular actor Vijaya Cumaranatunge. The potential he possessed in humanistic leadership as well as his unexpected demise had been deeply ingrained in the hearts of the people of Sri Lanka.

  While Chandrika's new political path is the talk of the day in various parts of the country these days, it is now reported that her son Vimukthi is to come to Sri Lanka in the future with the intention of entering politics. It is further reported that because Vimukthi is Vijaya's son, he would be able to draw public attraction and that he would be involved in election publicity campaigns,  as a political strategy. Political information from inside sources says that the former premier is now going round the country these days and participating in various meetings criticising the government for the purpose of setting the background necessary for the aforementioned strategy. In the recent past, certain media had reported that there is a possibility that for the anticipated political revolution to be launched by Vimukthi Cumaranatunge, he would receive the backing of certain leaders of the UNP, SLFP and SLMP.
