Two persons arrested for having sent racial SMS
Police headquarters reported that two individuals have been taken into custody this afternoon on allegations that they have sent SMS which provokes racial enmity among Sinhalese and Muslims. Of the two, one is a Sinhalese and the other a Muslim. Police Headquarters request the public to inform Police Headquarters via phone Nos. 0112320141 or 0112320145 about any information regarding individuals sending SMS, email posters or Facebook social network, thus making use of the communication media, inciting racial hatred or conflict within the country.
It was reported this morning that there was a noticeable decline in the number of Muslims in the Eastern Province attending the Deyata Kirula Exhibition in Amparai because of such individuals spreading feelings of racial animosity through SMS. The IGP has made a special announcement asking them not to be scared of such threats.
