Both hangmen interdicted
What was reported in the recent past was that both hangmen who were recruited for service had disappeared. Inquiries were conducted as both hangmen who had said that that the were going home to their villages had not reported for work but had disappeared. However they had been loitering somewhere and had turned up for duties the following day. They had reported to work last week after the absence of a number of weeks.
The Commissioner who had expressed his displeasure for the two recruits for having violated service rules and also claiming holidays within a short period of having been recruited had thus called for an inquiry and had given them time to show valid reasons over the matter. They had appealed saying that they were unable to report to work because of a number of personal problems.
The Commissioner who did not wish to accept the reply as a valid reason, had decided to dismiss them from service under the allegation that they had vacated the post without notifying the authorities. As such, the two hangmen were interdicted.
As a result, the hangmen's vacancy once again fell vacant; but now the authorities have shown backwardness to recruit new hands.
The Prison Commissioner Mr.P.W. Kodippily had told the media that he would take action in the future to recruit the services of a hangman according to requirements of new officers concerned.
