The nephew who accompanied two Aunts to the bus stand early morning to take a bus to proceed to Kataragama to observe ‘SIL” knocked down by M.P’s vehicle killed

Weapons and ‘Ganja’ found in M.P’s jeep

Yesterday (27th) early morning a person was killed knocked down by UNP’s Member of Parliament for Hambantota, Dilip Wedaarachchi’s jeep. The M.P and two others were injured not critically though were transferred to the Matara hospital from the Hambantota hospital.
The accident had occurred at around 3.20 a.m. yesterday morning (27th) Poya day, when the Member of Parliament for Hambantota was returning to his home in Tangalle after attending to a funeral in Tissamaharamaya. The accident had occurred in Wadigala area in Hungama Police division.
A person 39 year old Singakkara Cyril a nephew of two aunts had accompanied them to the place where buses stop to get them into a Kataragama bound bus where they were going to observe ‘SIL’. This is how one of the aunt’s H.M.Karunawathie had described the incident:

“We came with our nephew to take a bus to go to Kataragama to observe ‘sil’. He came to escort us to the place where bus stops. The nephew tried to stop a oncoming bus by waving his hand. The speeding jeep vehicle had knocked him and he was thrown away about eight meters and was in a pool of blood., had succumbed to his injuries. The jeep that knocked him also knocked against a stationery bus and then went on to hit a lamp post. The vehicle was badly damaged and the three who were inside sustained injuries and were taken to the Hambantota hospital by the neighbours who rushed to the scene on hearing the noise of two collisions. We really could not believe what really happened. The bus had belonged to the Kataragama depot and the all the passengers were unhurt”.

It is learnt that the condition of the Member of Parliament and the two others are not serious. The Police had found some weapons and ‘ganja’ inside the jeep.
The Police is conducting investigations.
