Suspected issues on latest Kahawatta murder:
The Police investigations had been able to reveal certain suspected ‘clues’ in the mysterious killing of a woman on the 31st evening at Kotakathena area in Kahawatta.
The woman killed is U.D. Chandrawathie, a 66 year old mother of two children. Her body had been found inside the house premises in a corner close to the boundary parapet wall. From this it reveals that she would have been murdered inside the house and her body had been dragged to the spot where it was found.
It may also be that she had tried to run away while she was attacked and had fallen dead at that spot. The investigations had revealed that the gate was not locked in the normal manner. It was usual for her husband and son to lock the gate in the space provided in the gate provided for a padlock with a piece of stick when they leave the house for work.
It was learnt and suspected that at the time she was attacked she would have been in dining hall. It was also found she had on her hands, palms cut injuries as probably she may have taken evasive action in trying to avoid her been killed. She also has had injuries to the temple area of her face.
The murdered woman has two children. The son had lived with her in the house when the father was away at work. The daughter is married and is living in a separate house close by. On the day of the incident both son and her husband had been away at work. Her husband is a field officer in a tea estate in the Kalawana area. The son is also employed also as a field officer and is attached to a tea estate in Kahawatta area itself.
There family could be classified as a medium class family. The dwelling house is located very close to the end of the Warapitiya Grama Sevaka division. There are two houses very close to this particular house and a garage a further away, which is kept open without a door. Beyond these there is an abandoned piece of land.
The murder had occurred at around 5 p.m on the 31st.At that time there was torrential rain. Another speciality was that there was hardly anyone who rocked to the scene of the murder from the Warapitiya and Kotakethana areas. Perhaps it is believed that they were shocked, surprised and were in grief.
On the 1st yesterday morning the Pelmadulla Magistrate Chandani Niranjala Dias came to scene of the incident for an investigation. Her body was ordered to be taken to the Kahawatta base hospital for the post mortem. For this mysterious murder the responsibility in finding the murderer lies on the authorities of the Ratnapura Police. They have deployed the services of Police sniffer dogs including”Shiba”. The Police investigations are proceeding.
