Although she had left the Katunayake International airport on a flight via Singapore it is reported that she had not arrived in the scheduled Singapore airlines flight in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Asia’s Women’s Athletic conference was scheduled to be in Jakarta city in Indonesia from the 1st November to the 5th November. Susanthika Jayasinghe had left Katunayake airport on the 31st morning by the Singapore Airlines flight No SQ 469 which had taken off at 1.05 a.m. She had to be in transit in Singapore for a few hours and was scheduled to take a flight to Jakarta on flight No SQ 956 which had left Singapore at 9.30 am on the same day .
However she had not been in that flight and it had been confirmed that she had not arrived when it landed in Jakarta. The sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had ratified her nomination for her participation at this conference. She had been paid a sum of rupees eighty thousand (Rs 80,000/) as her travel expenses. The Sri Lanka Athletic Association had borne the expenses for her air tickets.
The person was appointed to welcome her at the Jakarta airport by the organisers on arrival had been disappointed and been helpless as she did not arrive in the scheduled flight to be taken her to the hotel where she was to be accommodated. The hotel authorities too had made inquiries from the organisers of the conference as she had not booked in at the hotel. Once the organiser of this conference was informed of her non arrival he had immediately informed the related authorities of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association.
The Senior Vice president of the Sri Lanka Athletic Association Sunil Jayaweera had confirmed that she had not arrived in Jakarta to participate in the conference for which she was nominated and sent to Jakarta. It is yet to be confirmed whether she had encountered and confronted and faced any obstacles or problems during the time she was in transit in Singapore or whether she had decided to stay in Singapore to do shopping spree it is reported.
Until mid night yesterday Susanthika Jayasinghe had not confirmed to the organisers of the conference in Jakarta or to the Sri Lanka Athletic Association officials as to what really had gone wrong. When the officials in Sri Lanka had tried to contact her over her mobile phone their efforts had proved futile as she may have perhaps switched it off.
