Thousands of commuters stranded on the roads bound to their offices in Colombo
Today morning owing to a sudden bus strike of Private Bus Operator’s Association in several routes amounting to around 100 destinations, in Colombo and suburbs commuters were stranded on the road reroute to their offices owing to a bus strike of the Private Bus owners Association. Those affected from Colombo are along High level road on route numbers 138, 122. 125, 280, 255, 174, 190 and several other routes. The private buses refrained from plying on these routes.
The reason for the strike was due to the continuous issuing of route permits for routes for new buses when there was no dearth of buses in these routes. In this regard their request is to remove the Minister in charge of Transport of his portfolio.
It is learnt that this situation is to spread further. They want at least to remove the powers vested upon him with regard to decisions of the Private Bus Operators Association. The Bus Operators association wants to withdraw his powers in this regard and not to interfere with the activities of the Private Bus Owners Association
