After winning the toss Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardena elected to bat and he opened with swashbuckling opening batsmen Tillekeratna Dilshan,it was Mahela Jayawardena who set the tone with quick scoring having played many successful reverse shots against the top class Pakistan spinners.

However Dilshan was not at all in his normal form, but was very sedate. The pair added 63 runs for the first wicket in 10.3 over’s. When Dilshan was dismissed for 35 runs he had taken 43 balls to score which is very unusual for him.

His knock comprised of only three fours. At the end of the allotted 20 over’s Sri Lanka could only score 139 runs for the loss of just four wickets. The score although was a meagre total, considering the nature of the wicket and the spin bowling options  of the Sri Lankan’s had it was a competitive score for the Pakistani’s.
The Pakistani openers, Skipper Mohammad Hafeez and Imran Nazir gave a solid start by adding 31 runs before Nazir departed for a quick fire 20 runs compiled in just 21 balls with three fours. Only Umar Akmal who was unbeaten with 29 not out and Skipper Mohammad Hafeez who score 42 runs in 36 balls with seven boundaries and the solitary six of the match impressed,  while no other batsman could reach double figures. The Pakistan could only manage only 123 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 over’s.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardena for his 42 made in 36 balls with seven hits to fence, mostly off reverse sweep shots off the formidable spinners was named “Player of the Match”. Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis and Angelow Mathews captured 3/25,2/27 and 2/27 respectively.
