RUWANWELLE SOBITHA SUBJECTED TO A RAG AND ASKED TO KNEEL DOWN

Ruwanwelle Sobitha was welcomed to the Welikada prison with a severe ‘rag’:

Last week when the case of raping a girl by Ruwanwelle Sobitha alias Sunil Shantha was heard at the kegalle courts the Magistrate had sentenced him for 20 years jail sentence. Initially he was sent to Kuruwita prison. Thereafter he was transferred to the Welikada prison.
It is reported that when he was sent to Welikada he was subjected to a rag by the inmates of the Wlikada prison. The uncle of the girl who was raped was also sentenced to jail. When the two came out to the garden the prisoners had told that the punishment in the form of a rag that would be given for raping is severe. He clothes they were wearing were removed and they were asked to kneel down nude for about an hour. Their clothes were put on the ground, trampled and crushed.
This raging incident was brought to the knowledge of the Prison officers who came to the scene and dispersed the prisoners and stopped the ragging incident. This was reported from the Welikada prison.
