The manner how the FM radio channels change from November 1st
From the first of November the FM radio tuning channels would be changed. The tuning frequency numbers of all the FM radio channels would change henceforth. In this context those who were used to listening to a favourite radio FM channel will have to adjust to tuning to another location to listen to their selected radio FM channels.
Some FM radio channel listeners have got tuning places very close to the earlier ones while some have to go a bit further, to completely different places to tune to their favourite radio FM channels.
This change has been made by the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Regulatory Commission for the huge advantage of the interested listeners. This is particularly advantageous to those listeners in the outstations where two FM channels close to each other collide with each other which do not give a clear reception as they could hear both broadcasts at the same time. This was a terrible hindrance and an obstacle for the interested listeners. This is so because Radio FM channels are increasing at alarmingly high rate.
Accordingly most FM radio channels have been given less number of tuning numbers which is very much less cumbersome for the FM radio listeners to tune to. The adjacent FM radio channels have just one or two decimal points apart to tune.
Those who have obtained licences to broadcast a FM radio channel had been allocated about five numbers earlier. They have been made into three numbers with just one decimal point while others have been given two numbers with just one decimal point to tune to the respective FM radio channels.
The new system provides the opportunity for those in the outstations to tune to their choice of FM radio very easily. This advantage is for all in outstations in particular. For those who drive vehicles in the outstations would get the opportunity to tune and listen to the FM radio channels of their choice not only easily but with very clear reception too.
