Owing to rumours that there is a Petro/Diesel shortage most petrol sheds are crowded with people:
Owing to a crude oil shortage, the Sapugaskande oil refinery has been closed for a period of two weeks from tomorrow. Hence there is widespread rumour that there is bound to be an oil shortage in the country. The crowing of petrol sheds was a common site at almost all petrol sheds today.
However the related authorities have reported that there is not going to have a shortage of both petrol and diesel in the country. They also had reported that it is not a concern at all. Owing to the dispute of oil exports of America from Iran and the economic ties that exist, it would not affect Sri Lanka as crude oil could be imported from other countries.
As Sri Lanka is not going to receive the usual quota of imported crude oil as before the Sapugaskande oil refinery has been forced to close for a while, until they continuously receive imported crude oil. It is reported that upon receipt of new stocks of imported crude oil normal work in the oil refinery would commence.
It is learnt that one vessel bringing crude oil is nearing reaching our Port and some other vessels with crude oil are due to arrive. The related authorities have disclosed that there are sufficient stocks for distribution for a further period of two months.
However the trade union personnel are saying that this information is incorrect. They say very shortly there is bound to be a fuel shortage which cannot be avoided.
