SRI LANKA BEAT WEST INDIES BY 9 WICKETS

Sri Lanka wins second match in Super Eights, books berth for Semi Finals:

Sri Lanka beat West Indies in the ICC World Cup T 20,  a Super Eight Group encounter convincingly by 9 wickets under lights at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium. With this win Sri Lanka team had booked a place in the Semi Finals in the World ICC T 20 tournament 2012.

West Indies who batted first could score only 129 for the loss of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. The low score for which they were restricted to were mainly due to the unplayable bowling spell of mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis, the brilliant wicket keeping of Kumar Sangakkara and the brilliant fielding of the rest of the players.
In reply the Sri Lanka reached this total for the loss of the solitary wicket of Tilakaratna Dilshan. They reached the target in just 15.2 overs. The experienced batting duo of Skipper Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara added 108 runs for the unbeaten 2nd wicket stand compiled in just 75 balls. Mahela Jayawardena was unbeaten on 65 compiled in 49 balls while Kumar Sangakkara’s unbeaten inning of 39 runs was compiled in 34 balls. Skipper Mahela Jayawardena for his masterly majestic knock was named as the “MAN OF THE MATCH”
