During the period Malaka was in prison he had occupied a Jailors office room:
For a day he has had about 150 visitors, mobile phones, five star hotel foods and everything:
Last week there a huge uproar when it was confessed that “Malaka did not assault me”. It is like an episode from a Tele-drama. The entire story is summarised below:
Malaka and his associates had assaulted the Major. The Major was hospitalised. Malaka who surrendered was remanded with Rehan for a week. Because of the shock the Major had later said that “Malaka did not assault him”. The case was taken up early and. In five days Malaka came home.
Before Malaka was remanded on Monday his Lawyer had submitted a peculiar Medical Certificate.
“ Malaka is suffering from an acute back ailment. It is a very dangerous type of ailment. It was certified by Neuro Physician Padma Gunaratna. He is to undergo an operation very shortly. The second suspect Rehan is also suffering from a serious illness. He has to sleep at nights with some type of apparatus. This was stated in the Physicians medical report. In this contest the Physician had requested and recommended the Magistrate that they be given bail”.
At that moment the Magistrate did not give them bail. Both were ordered to be remanded for a week.
After the hearing both Malaka and Rehan had left the court premises through a back door to get into the Prison bus. The media personnel were puzzled. Only two had spotted them leaving and were able to take photographs. Both were taken to the prison hospital. After a few moments in the beds they had been given accommodation in a Jailors office room, it is reliably reported.
According to rules and regulations that exist in the Prison only three visitors are allowed for a day to see the arrested. But in this case there was no barrier as visitors and relatives amounting to 100 to 150 had visited to see Malaka and Rehan daily. During the five days 90% of the time they had been staying comfortably in a Jailors office room.
According to regulations in the prison only higher officers could have the facility of using mobile phones. That rule was not there for Malaka who had flouted the rule totally. They were given whatever they wanted like staying in a five star hotel. In short it had been VIP treatment with rich foods and other comforts.
Any other person who is ordered to be remanded for an offence has to lead an uncomfortable life in the prison. But Malaka and Rehan had been leading a very comfortable life during this period.
For breaking the strict rules and regulations for giving comforts to Malaka and Rehan in the prison the Senior Prison Officers are contemplating on making a protest to the Commissioner of Prisons it is reported.
