“If you are interested in proceeding to Japan I will get you the Visa”
The attractive girl nabbed inside the Japanese Embassy:
To obtain a valid visa to proceed to Japan is no easy task. As there is a lot of competition to get a visa to Japan, an attractive girl had deployed plans to get people to pay her large sums of money in the pretext of obtaining valid visas as an employee of the Japanese Embassy. She is 23 years old, a resident of Samudra Mawatha, in Siyabalape, Biyagama. Her name is Piyumi Tharaka Kalpani Ranasinghe.
She had been indulged in this fictitious business for a number of months. She has however sent four persons with fictitious documents to Japan with the help of a friend working in the Japanese Embassy.
“If you want to go to Japan I will do it for you”.
“I am working in the Japanese Embassy. Hence I could do it for you”. She has had in her possession an identity card as an employee of the Japanese embassy.” Once you could go to Japan you could earn any amount of money”. She used to get clients fill forms for them, take photocopies, passports and a large sum of money. However there had been some suspicion as there were some delays in the processing of the applications.
When the clients complained about the delays she used to tell:
“Still I could not do it, please bear with me for another few days”
Two people had got suspicious whether she really works in the Japanese Embassy, particularly as she hurriedly filled the forms and took money from them.
They had quipped “are you really a member of the staff at the Japanese Embassy.’ She had replied as to “why do you think that I am not a member of the staff of the Japanese embassy”. She had said “hello I am doing this work with a terrible risk” and had shown her Embassy Identity card.
These two people just to check have followed this girl to the office of the Japanese Embassy. That day she was late. Yet she walked into the Japanese Embassy premises. Then the two men had walked to the security personnel and had quipped whether that lady is an employee of the embassy staff.”Do you know that Miss who just walked in”. The security officer had told that he had seen her coming to this office quite often.
When questioned whether she is an employee of the Japanese Embassy the answer given was “NO’. But she comes here to meet a friend of hers working in the Embassy office. The two people were upset and not happy had complained to the Security who had informed the Police.
She was taken and arrested by the Cinnamon garden Police personnel. When on examination she had in her possession fake documents various types of visa applications, fake Identity cards, passports and Rs two lakhs in cash. All these were handed over to the Embassy Office by the Police.
It is learnt that she had been involved in this bogus visa racket for a number of months. She also had with her bogus salary sheets from the Japanese embassy. She on the strength of these documents had even two cars from a rent-a- car dealer for her business.
The Cinnamon gardens police had produced her before the Colombo Magistrate Courts where the Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli had ordered her to remanded till the 24th of this month.
