Were the three members of the same family, killed by poisoning?
Did the Pharmacist son run away or was he abducted?
The triple murder of the same family was reported yesterday from a room rented out in a three storeyed house at Ramakrishna Road, at Wellawatte. There is doubt whether the son had killed the family members or whether it was done by murderers and abducted the son?
It is reported that the son who is an experienced Pharmacist had been working at Pettah and had lived in a rented out room in the three storeyed building at Wellawatte for a number of years. His name is Prasan Kumaraswamy.
A few days ago his father, mother and sister had come to Colombo from Dimbula, in Kotagala area and had stayed in his room. They had come to Colombo to collect his father’s Provident Fund money after he had completed his tenure of service at the Kotagala Estate Superintendent’s bungalow as his driver. His name is Sangili Kumaraswamy.
One of Prashan’s relative friends Nicholas had tried to contact him over the phone for a number of days. As his efforts had proved futile he had called over at his room to meet him personally for a business transaction. When he rang the bell there had been no response. He had however smelt an unbearable scent from within the room. This had arisen suspicion had informed the Police. When the police arrived when no one opened the door they had entered the room by breaking the lock. To their surprise they had found the three dead bodies covered with clothes. When the stench that emanated was considered the deaths were predicted to have occurred at least three days ago.
As there were no scars on the bodies it was suspected that the murders may have been occurred owing to poisoning by chemicals. Those who committed these murders had placed some camphor balls close to the bodies in order to prevent the stench and odour emanating to the outsiders.
When the Police searched the room they found that the almyrah had been broken and it was in a ramshackle state. The murdered are reported to be Sangili Kumaraswamy 58 years old, his wife Puwathi 58 years old and Amith Priya who is a trainee in the Kotagala estate only 25 years old.
The suspicion is whether someone had come to burgle the money collected from the provident fund or whether Prasan who is missing had murdered his family members and bolted with the provident fund money.
Investigations in this regard are been conducted.
