‘SPECIALIST’ DOCTORS SCAM IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS

Public is warned against treatment by ‘specialist’ doctors at private hospitals:

The Office bearers of the Government Medical Officers Association has brought to the notice of the public and the related authorities that a number of foreign ‘specialist’ doctors are working in private hospitals in Sri Lanka.
It is reported in terms of Act No 67 A of the constitution of the GMOA a number of foreign doctors known to be ‘specialist’ doctors have been registered with their Association. Although they could register with the GMOA they cannot perform the duties of Specialist doctors in Sri Lanka.
Although they perform the duties as ‘Specialist’ doctors, they have to prove their ability and competency. Unfortunately in Sri Lanka there is no established body to obtain approval with regard to their efficiency and competency.
It has been informed by the GMOA authorities that owing to this lapse there are 184 specialist doctors who are practicing in 4 private hospitals in Sri Lanka. It is regretted by the GMOA officials that there is no one who could form a body to have them screened, which is an unfortunate situation for our private patients who patronise these private hospitals.
