GALLE WEKUNAGODA TRAIN ACCIDENT:KILLS TWO

Train-Backo loader accident at Wekunagoda in Galle claims two lives and critically injures three persons:
Today evening the Kandy bound express train from Matara had collided with Backo loader at Wekunagoda in Galle at an unprotected level crossing around 3.30 p.m. As a result two persons had to pay for their lives.

The Express train while approaching the unprotected level crossing had seen the Backo loader trying to cross the railway line. The operator had just failed to get it moved in excitement over the railway line. It had been pushed aside and had fallen on the way side. Two persons had been killed while three persons on the way side had critically injured and had been admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital for treatment.

Today the 14th as a result of the mishap the train services had been slightly delayed on the coastal line, but it was learnt that the normal train schedules had come back to normal.
