AHUBUDU CONTRADICTION AT HABARADUWA PC

“There’s nothing that Ahubudu done for the village”

“The man who plucks coconuts in the village is much better than him”

 – Bandupala Amarakoon

‘Arisen Ahubudu Foundation’ is trying to organize many events to commemorate for the late Arisen Ahubudu, in Koggala, the village he was born and lived.  Thus, their family members have made a written request to the Pradeshiya Sabha at Habaraduwa as they have planned to name Koggala Beach Park and a library in Kathaluwa in his name.
In a meeting the members of the Pradeshiya Sabha was talking about that matter and the Vice president Bandupala Amarakoon argued against using that name. He said:
“There’s nothing that Arisen Ahubudu has done for this village. The man who plucks coconuts is better than him as he would attend a funeral or an alms giving unlike him. He gained many economical benefits by going to the town from the village. There wasn’t anything that he did for the village. I am against naming Koggala Park in his name which was built with a lot of effort. Don’t use his name to the library as well. Can his relatives wear clothes and make such requests as such?”
However, the Minister of the Opposition and the Member of the Pradeshiya Sabha had been against his idea saying that people who have worked for the village should be commemorated.
