State Television Rupavahini wins Temporary battle for telecasting London Olympics:
Recently Sirasa TV channel made announcements that they have got the Television rights to telecast the London 2012 Olympics games. About the telecasting of the Olympics the respective channels are more interested in obtaining commercial advertisements. It is purely on the grounds of financial gain, it is reliably learnt.
Although there had been press conferences, the intention of one channel is to sling mud at the other channel. However it is not certain yet which channel has been awarded the TV rights for telecasting the 2012 London Olympics scheduled to be held in July this year.
Even the advertisers and businessmen are not aware as to who has got the TV rights officially. Today the matter had been taken to the Commercial courts via a petition filed by the National TV, the Ruvavahini. Only a temporary solution has been reached. According to the National State Television, the Rupavahini in the year 2008 the Asian Pacific Telecast society had issued an agreement to telecast such events up to the year 2012.However according to the judges confirmed that until 31st May The Asia Pacific telecast society cannot hand over the telecasting rights to any other channel.
The petition has yet to be scrutinized properly. Since the MBC channel too has lodged a petition, hence the judgement would be delivered later. The 2012 London Olympics is scheduled to be held in July 2012.
