Manisha who met the President passed away and was that due to evil harm from ‘black magic’?
Two deaths continue in Buttala after her death which was suspected to be due to sorcery:
Hope you remember Manish Chamindi who wanted to meet President Mahinda Rajapakse as her last wish while in her death bed was her only ambition to see him before her death. And thus the meeting was arranged in last February. She passed away last 30th due to the cancer which had affected her lungs.
The villagers whose belief system was based on traditional sorcery and black magic were so fretful. It is reported that the villagers who have drawn out a story of black magic as the cause to the death of Manisha had created chaos in the village.
The villagers believe that people can use black magic and ‘sorcery’ against someone by chanting evil charms with the ash of a dead person and thus they bury it under the earth of the household where the relevant family lives. This is supposed to bring evil towards the family and it will bring a chain of endless harms against that family, the worst been deaths.
The villagers believed thoroughly that one of the uncles of Manisha had used sorcery against her family as there were continuous deaths in her family during a short period of time.
The relatives of Manisha’s father lived close by and they were not in good terms with each other. They have had quarrels over a period of time and the villagers believed that Bambarawane Liyanage Dayratne one of Manish’s uncle’s had used sorcery to destruct the whole family.
Manisha’s father had died of a sudden heart attack and her grandfather’s death, the death of one of her cousins who had been only 3 years old had died owing to Leukemia and Manisha been identified as a cancer patient had happened in a short period of time. Manisha’s cousin who had acquired Leukemia had died on the 1st of March and Manisha had died on the 30th of April.
14th mile post along Temple road of Kambukana in Buttala was in fire on the day of Manisha’s sudden death. On the same day around 8.45 p.m. one of Manisha’s uncle’s named Asanka had broken in to Dayaratne’s house and stabbed both Dayaratne and his daughter injuring his wife as well.
Dayaratne and his daughter died from this unfortunate incident. Manisha’s aunt Kusumawathi who was severely injured from this incident is still under treatment at Monaragala hospital. Manisha’s uncle, Asanaka had been arrested by the police as a suspect. Monaragala Police had found the sword that had been used in the murders had been thrown into Kunbukana stream. The suspect had confessed stating that he killed Dayaratne as he believed that Dayaratne had used sorcery against Manisha’s family and he had been very aggressive after Manisha’s death.
While the investigations were carrying out, Manisha’ funeral was taken on the 3rd of April. Some donators who helped Manisha had rented a house in Pannipitiya, Pelanwatta for Manisha and her mother so that it is easy for them to take treatments from the cancer hospital. She was sent to a school in Maharagama during her last few days. She was taken into the 7th grade and in her last term she had scored 894 marks and had became the 2nd in the class.
Another special fact was that her eyes on her request had been donated after her death.
The conservative villagers who believe in sorcery and black magic still think that the death was caused by black magic, due to which Kumbukana Buttala experienced three deaths.
