ANGELA TO FLY OUT OF COUNTRY

Angela to leave the country

New hope of getting her job back

Angela Seneviratne whose name was connected to a ‘Hashish’ parcel, in an interview to a newspaper had mentioned that she is hoping to leave the country soon. At the same time she had mentioned to ‘Divaina’ newspaper that she is expecting that she will get her job at Saudi Embassy back. She has mentioned that she had got favourable responses to her request asking them to consider her appeal about her innocence.
She had told Sunday ‘Silumina’ newspaper that she is planning to go abroad for some time. She had also told that now she has time to join the art industry. May be she wouldn’t have got the happy news about her getting her job back when she had given the interview to ‘Silumina’ newspaper. However, she had not mentioned about her job to them. This is how she answered:

Why did you stay away from art?

Owing to my job.  I joined the embassy of Saudi Arabia 11 years ago. I was doing a responsible job there. I had to leave the field of art because I had to dedicate most of my time to my job. Had I continued to act, then I would have not done justice to it. Yet it was obvious after what happened recently that my fans had not still forgotten me.

In what dramas and movies did you take part before you left the country?

I was involved not only in drama, stage productions and movies but also in English stage plays. Before I left, I acted in English plays as well. The last
Sinhala production I acted in was “Nisalagira” where I acted a very strong role.

Where do your children live?

My eldest daughter works in Jordan as an airhostess. My other two daughters work in Australia in the field of hotel industry and tourism. Except for the youngest, the other two are married.

Aren’t they related to the field of art?

My second daughter acted in her father’s (Gamini Fonseka) film “Nomiyena Minisun”. She is a talented singer. She has some of her own songs. The other two are not artists.

What about your husband?

He was ill for some time. Now he has recovered. He works as an instructor at a Sri Lankan university related to Hotel and Tourism.

Weren’t you a journalist a long time ago?

I worked as an editor to the Women magazine. Still I am doing a column in the Daily Mirror.

Do you like the field of journalism?

Yes, I loved journalism, but I have never lied to the people. I never wrote lies or make other people feel uncomfortable about it. I wrote feature articles. I am very disappointed about how the journalists portrayed me regarding the incident I underwent recently. I lost my job because some journalists used their pen irresponsibly against me.

You came as an actress and you became a producer. Why don’t you continue to be a director?

That is because I don’t have such a lot of money. I wanted to direct a film, and I had to leave that idea behind because I ran short of money. I wasn’t a businesswoman. All I had was what I earned by doing hard work.

Are you happy as an artist?

Yes, of course. Still the fans remember all the productions I took part in starting from “Koti walige”. I am happy that my fans still remember me and I think I am lucky to be an artist.

What was your favourite role?

My first film was “Koti walige”. It was a challenging role and I was awarded a ‘Sarasaviya’ award for that.

Were your best friends (artists) there for you when you had to undergo the problem that happened recently?

Some of them were there. Some of my close associates encouraged me and consoled me. Friends like Anoja, Sanoja, Mario, Kalum, Priyantha, Jayantha Katagoda were a great strength to me.

Actually what was the cause for the news to which your name was connected?

A new family is residing where I lived 10 years back. There are some foreigners among them. They have continued a drug business which was revealed recently. They have been using my name for it. They have found my name which they have found in a letter send to me by one of my fans and they have imported drugs from abroad. They have used a Sri Lankan to forge my signature I have no connection to this story and the police or the Police Narcotics Bureau did not accuse me. Some media accused me in such a bad way.

What are your plans for the future?

I am planning to go abroad for some time. And I will write my autobiography. Perhaps that will be a story which could be used for a film script.
