THE THAMBAKANDA EASTER PASSION PLAY 2012

The biggest Easter play will be staged tomorrow:

A massive Easter play is to be staged tomorrow with the participation of a number of artists at Thambakanda sacred premises tomorrow. This is going to be the only first play to be held with the participation of the highest number of artists.
 Jeevan Kumaratunga is to portray the role of Christ, Sanath Gunathilake as Pilate, Ranjan Ramanayake as Juvam, Maurine Charuni as Mother Mary, Sumana Amarasinghe as Claudia, Neeta Fernando as Maria, Kanchana Mendis as Magthaleda, Cletus Mendis as Pedro, Roy De Silva as Thomas, Richard Weerakkody as Judas, Suresh Gamage as Juvam, Mahesh Jayasinghe as Jacob, Rony Leech as Berthmevla, Tennyson Cooray as Mathew, Niroshan Wijesinghe as Annas, Gnananga Gunawardane as the Priest, Bonifus Fernando as Theous, Sri Lal Gunasekara as Barabbaas, Samanthi Lanerole and Rebeca Nirmalee as the helpers of Mother Mary. Along with these main characters a number of other artists (around 50) are to take part in this play.
The special feature is that many Buddhist artists too are playing major roles in this play.
Jayantha Modare has written the play under the guidance of Thambakanda Parish priest Stanley Peiris. Music would be directed by Kanchana Jayasinghe and Christi Mihindukula and Kaushalya Jayaratne have supported in practicing the songs. The producer of this massive production is Premi Fernando and the Director is Peter Welamba.
