WIMAL’S STATEMENT CRITICIZED BY ARTISTS

Artists slander Wimal Weerawansa’s Anti-Americanism

A speech delivered by Minister Wimal Weerawansa against America at a meeting last week became a crucial and a controversial version:.
At the meeting he requesting from the people to boycott items like Pepsi, Coco Cola, Google, G Mail, Mc Donald’s and KFC.
He stated that we can show our protest against USA. Even though he wanted to boost the patriotism of the people he was criticized by a lot of people on many occasions. In between the Minister, Lakshman Yapa stated that it isn’t a view of the Government and that even he is unable to boycott g-mail.
Due to these reasons Wimal’s statement had become a joke in many events and about his remarks which are not the manner a learned person would think.
Many newspapers brought up this issue by getting the opinion of the artists.  Among those one  is Anarkali Akarsha. This is what she told:

“I don’t know whether he writes his own speech or whether someone else does it for him… I of course see that statement as a wrong one… We have to answer the views that are against Sri Lanka through Google and g’ mail. If we aren’t using them it becomes an advantage for them and thus they can attack us easily… because it is difficult for us to build a view among the international, thrn it is difficult for us to boycott Google. Especially the youth of the country are patriotic. Our youth is using Google to explore the world. From that we can correct the view of the people who see us as wrong.

Ranjan Ramanayake’s point of view is as below:-

“Wimal is always a person to come up with jokes. We have seen how he met Ban Ki moon while he was protesting against him and how his wife went to Disneyland. At the end of the conference in which he had asked to boycott the usage of American goods. He has treated the media persons with Coca Cola. After the speech one of my friends has seen him in the drive way of McDonald’s… he is a character like “Dawal Migel Re Daniel”. Those acts are good to fill the galleries. If he really wants to boycott America, he should first start that with the two Rajapakses in the Government who have got the American citizenship. Lot of our goods and products are exported to America, if America boycotts our goods the poor people will have to suffer and not him. We are lucky that the foreigners don’t understand Sinhala spoken by him.”

Roshan Ranawana’s point of view is as below:

“It is good to avoid Coke and Mc Donald’s worrying about our health, yet that doesn’t mean that I don’t use them any more… even from an enemy we should know to take the maximum use of good things. How much we could learn from Google? I don’t see any point in asking to boycott Google. It is useless to such immature things thinking that the America will feel it. And the people who say them too use them. If the people who bring those laws and act accordingly, we too can follow suit but that doesn’t happen at all.
Ravindra Randeniya expressed his point of view as below:-
“All of us who are experiencing these moments are very sensitive. I see this statement as one made with that sense of mind…”
