The Controversial Dan Priyasad

Dan Priyasad—real name Abe Rathna Suresh Priyasad—was a polarizing figure known for his extreme nationalist rhetoric, frequent media appearances, and ties to political movements, particularly those aligned with Sinhala nationalism and the Rajapaksa era. On April 22, initial reports claimed he had died from gunshot injuries, though later updates clarified his condition was critical. 

His name has been linked to multiple controversial incidents over the years, including hate speech, political unrest, and criminal investigations ranging from assault to attempts at evading arrest. Most recently, he was apprehended at the Katunayake Airport in February 2025 after a reported illegal return from Dubai, reviving public attention on his turbulent past.
