Jayalath had acted as if he was seriously injured to gain media publicity
Last week to commemorate 25 years of the’RAVAYA’ newspaper, the President, Ministers, Leader of the Opposition, Members of Parliament The General secretary of the UNP and distinguished guests were all invited to the BMICH by the Editor of ‘Ravaya’, Victor Ivan.
The President met the trio, the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, The General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and Member of Parliament Dr Jayalayh Jayawardena quite accidently. The President was inquisitive to know about the injuries caused to Dr Jayalath Jayawardena during their protest against the oil hike and cost of living demonstrations which took place when tear gas and rubber bullets were fired. The President had seen in the TV how Dr Jayalath Jayawardena was carried away by his supporters to hospital to treat his injuries sustained.
The President had quipped in front of the UNP trio, that Dr Jayalath had been carried away without many injuries for the attention of the ‘media’. Then Tissa Attanayake had asked why he did not visit to see him in hospital with a ‘Thambili’.
Then the President had said he sent Maithripala to see him on my behalf. The President accused Dr Jayalath that this was all planned to attract the media attention and publicity. This erupted to laughter and then Dr Jayalath answered and showed his hand which was injured by a rubber bullet fired by the Police. According to you had only injured your hand. But the pictures shown on TV showed a different story which erupted to laughter by those who were hearing the story with the President.
