The right Dharmachakra is been questioned
Dharmachakra is a symbol used in Buddhism and a dispute has built as to what the right Dharmachakra is. Sri Lanka Buddhist Followers Association shows that there is a problem because different symbols have been used all over the world. They show that one symbol should be used since it represents one religion. Out of these different symbols the Chakra with 24 wheels is the one used for the flags by the emperor, Asoka. In Sri Lanka the wheel with 8 spokes into exterior and 8 spokes into interior is been used.
However, since both the wheels with 24 pokes and 8 spokes represent the Four Noble Truth, the standpoint of the specialists is that there is no wrong as the meaning is still protected.
Even though Asoka Wheel is not used very much in Sri Lanka, this Chakra with 24 spokes was used in 2011 for the 1000 Rupee coin which was issued for the Anniversary of Buddha and it was approved by the Committee of Buddhist Jubilee.
Even though things are so, still the Department of Buddhist Affairs is using the chakra which is protruded into the exterior without the four corners. The chakra which is protruded into exterior with the four corners which is often used by the majority has not been accepted.
Amidst this situation, the Department of Buddhist Affairs is showing the necessity of announcing the correct Dharmachakra and they show that it is problematic that the Committee of the Anniversary of Buddha which was established 3 years ago had not shown any interest about these issues.
