Pettah too becomes a battlefield
A protest organized by the UNP against the rising cost of living was held at Pettah this evening which was now turning to be ferocious.
It is reported that the protestors had blocked the roads and therefore the Police has taken steps to use tear gas to disperse the protestors.
The Police had fired teargas when the protestors had tried to march towards the Telecom Roundabout which had commenced in front of Fort Railway Station.
It was reported that Ranil Wickramasinghe, the Leader of the Opposition with the party’s Members of Parliament were joined by people in large numbers. It was also reported that the office workers returning after work had to face a lot of difficulties due to this tensed situation.
