Rusty Spotted Cat found in well:
In Pohahaddamulla area in Wadduwa a wild Fishing Cat was located by neighbours in an abandoned well. Fishing Cat was taken out alive by the neighbours with the help of Officials of Wild life Department. This incident had taken place yesterday the 9th.
The Fishing Cat is a very rare species in the cat’s family and the wild life authorities are interested in preserving them. The animal was well grown and was about 5 feet in length. The neighbours believe that the Fishing Cat may have fallen into the well by accident.
After the incident was reported to the Wild Life Department, officers of the Wild Life Department had come all the way from their Hikkaduwa office and had taken out Fishing Cat alive, saving the life of the animal with the help of the neighbours.
It is learnt that Fishing Cats live in jungles and they come out in night to kill and eat cats and fowls. The rescued Tiger cat as it is a rare species was released to a nearby jungle.
