The white flag case verdict to be given on the day of Mahinda’s birthday
The proceedings of the prolonged white flag case against Sarath Fonseka were concluded yesterday. The verdict is to be delivered exactly on the day of President’s birthday exactly one month from yesterday, the 18th October. There is some speculation whether the day has been fixed after some thought as it is the day the President is to celebrate his birthday.
It has been planned now itself to for its celebrations in a grand manner. During that week there is going to attract a lot of media attention. The newly built southern highway is to be officially opened on the next day, the 19th November. Hence whatever verdict is given it will not attract much publicity. In the white flag day case the lawyer appearing for Sarath Fonseka had mentioned that Federica Jansz had made contradictory statements. At the end of the case the defendant made an unusual story. It was like this.
“The England scholar ‘Blake Stone’ a Pastor had said it does not matter even 1000 accused may be freed. But it is very dangerous for a person not guilty to be convicted.” This was made at the beginning and end of the proceedings.
It should be told that a country who possesses the only General, with 4 stars and was a war hero could be convicted by accepting the evidence of Federica Jansz who gave contradictory evidence, disgraced the courts, be believed?
This should be considered seriously when the verdict is delivered. The evidences of both parties should be measured by weighing them on a scale to give the correct verdict.
“If the duties entrusted are done,
Even the whole world groans,
Should have the patience,
You are my son excellent’
(This is a translation of a verse said in Sinhalese made by the retired General)
