HAMBANTOTA BEACH VOLLEYBALL –THE LOST FANTASY

Sri Lanka’s women’s gracefulness not exposed:

Last week the South Asian Beach Sports festival was concluded. The dresses of the participants worn according to critics were strictly according to our culture. However their attire did not conform to the attire that has to be worn for beach sports events.
They did not wear clothes exposing their bodies unlike the participants from some other countries. This was noticed visibly in beach netball and volleyball fixtures. The beach sports had begun by tourists who visit to get sun bathed. Hence loose clothes exposing their figures were worn. However in many parts of the world and during Olympic Games beach sports events they need to dress exposing their bodies. The rule is to cover tightly the top and bottom where it is necessary only.
When playing on hot sandy surfaces the light clothes are recommended. In the year 1999, the rules were amended and permission was given for the players to wear clothes to cover their bodies.
Anyway it was not practical to wear such clothes in international games. In the year 2007 in the South Pacific beach games the players were allowed to wear short pants and to play wearing clothes to cover their body. In the year 2006 the rules were changed in the Asian Beach sports festival where several players from muslim countries participated.
However in order to make the games popular leaving the laws aside, the open attire made the games very popular in Europe and America. The most popular beach sports festivals are held in Manhattan, St.Barbara and Hormosa.
It is a well known fact that many spectators, the men in particular come in their numbers to witness these beach sports specially to see the gracefulness of the bodies of women which are to a large extent exposed. Hence beach volleyball and beach netball are attracted by the women players.
The concluded beach sports festival held in Sri Lanka, the rules of the dresses had been changed accordingly to the culture prevailing in South Asia.
Nevertheless in the year 2010 in the beach volleyball festival held in Oman the Sri Lanka players played wearing clothes just covering the top and the bottom exposing their bodies.
(In the picture below in the beach volleyball event the Katagastan players are seen with the Sri Lankan player W.W.Sujeewa.)
What reveals is that the attire is changed accordingly to the venue and the culture that prevails.
