HANDBAG THIEF CAUGHT BY CCTV

Through the York Street’s CCTV, cameras handbag thief has been nabbed

There are many CCTV cameras are fixed at various places in the Colombo city to monitor the activities of thief’s in particular .It has been the opinion of many that this exercise has not been able to detect anything special worthwhile compared to the expenditure incurred in its installation and operation.
However according to the Media spokesman of the police had revealed with the help of a CCTV camera fixed at York Street location had  been successful in nabbing a 3 wheeler driver having scooted off when a passenger had left his handbag containing valuables inside a 3 wheeler at York Street and for a moment had dropped into obtain cash from a ATM. By the time the passenger returned the 3 wheeler driver had fled away taking with him the clients handbag. This had contained 2000 euro dollars together with some important personal documents.
This theft had been reported to the Police by the passenger whose handbag was lost. He had conveyed the exact location of the incident to the Police. These pictures from the cameras had contained so many irrelevant ones. However the police Media was able to locate to identify the driver with the help of the CCTV cameras.
The victim is a person from the Homagama area. After complaining to the Police the passenger had been able to recover his valuables lost. It was with the help of the CCTV cameras installed near the location the Police media was able to apprehend the culprit .The lost valuables were recovered and were handed over to the possession of the owner.
It has also to be revealed that during the month of July a thief at the Narahenpita shopping complex was apprehended with the aid of these CCTV cameras, a Police media spokesman had reported.
It is also learnt that about 2500 traffic offences had been detected by the Police media by the aid of CCTV based cameras installed at random.
