CLASHES PREDICTED BETWEEN NEW PRIVATE MEDICAL COLLEGES AND THE GMOA?GMOA BANS PRACTICAL EXPEREINCE TO MEDICAL STUDENTS AT GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS:
It is suggested that the batch of medical students, in the new Malabe private medical hospital are to obtain ward experience from the Homagama Government hoppital.aif this is implemented the GMOA has warned that drastic action by way of a protest, would be taken by its members.
It is a well known fact that admission to any medical college is based on
students who have obtained the highest marks at the GCE (Advanced Level) examination. However those who have obtained lesser marks had been given the opportunity to enter the private medical colleges. However those affluent who have money have been given preference to over those in the lesser income groups. This decision has been deeply protested by the GMOA, in the unfair manner of the selection process had been made. The concept of commencing of new private medical colleges, had been in the foremost in the minds of previous government officials. The suggestion for some reason or other could not be implemented and unfortunately could not get off the ‘blocks’. However this government was able to commence a just a few private medical colleges. This is is a puzzle to many as to how this government was able to break the shackles and get off the ‘blocks ‘by breaking all obstacles.

The GMOA had added that no private medical college could be opened without having their sanction and approval. The sessions have already begun in the year 2010 under the sole approval of the Minister of Higher Education, S.B.Dissanayake. The GMOA is baffled as to how these private medical colleges were formed in the year 2010 under their sole approval and without obtaining their permission. At these private medical colleges, Diplomas in IT also could be studied with the payment of a fee.
The MBBS degree takes a period of 5 years to complete and those with just 3 'S' passes in the GCE (Advanced Level) could get enrolled on a payment of a fee.
GMOA look on the other side those are leaving the country not only from A/L 3 S but also, from O/L and doing a crash course to eligible and getting MBBS, MD, etc. finally getting medical degrees. You are not thinking that part. Anyway to obtain a foreign Medical degree the money is going out of the country. Why don't you support to retain that money in Sri Lanka and earn some money from other countries to Sri Lanka. If this institution is not in the country these parents are affordable and they could send their children to the other countries & obtain a medical degree. Finally they practice in SL.
ReplyDeleteWe accept GMOA members; you are doing a great service to Sri Lankans
Therefore my dear members of GMOA please look at in different angle from this Medical institution in SL our country saves two things
1. Our cultural values of our students they are too close to their parents & care
2. Retaining money in Sri Lanka.
Don't against them support them to develop our mother Lanka. Allow them to learn and sever to our country like you do.
Country money out floor is a different thing. But as a citizen, we need quality and assured medical service to the country. Need not to play with innocent partiants. Need to ban this illegal medical degree. To protect the mother lanka need to protect community. Therefore it is not necessary to work with unqualified doctors from degree shops. I am a Senior Citizen in the country, but not a doctor. I am appreciating service of the Government doctors. They also have a trade union right like other employes. We are full support.
ReplyDeleteWe need to develop government medical colleges. But government not support to develop. And need to open other new medical faculties in Sabaragamuwa and South eastern Universities to fulfill the shortage of doctors. Some time general public will come to the road against government. Government will unpopular, because government is appearing behalf of 200 students. Forget 2 million people and qualified professionals and university students.
ReplyDeletewhat is the actual requirement of PMC. No any requirment. Cost can bear any middle class parents. Cant. What for? need not PMC
ReplyDelete3 'S' + required millions = doctor at PMC
ReplyDeleteTop grades at A/L + hard work = doctor at state MC
Which doctor would you go to if identifiable when they are let loose? I always thought that doctoring needed the kind of intelligence that should necessarily earn the person grades far beyond 3 'S' at A/Ls.
