TOMATO PANDAL FOR POSON

Usually the normal practice is to decorate a pandal with coloured bulbs. However it has been reported from Walapone area, in Nuwara Eliya district that a Pandal has been erected using tomatoes instead of bulbs.
The tomato growers have been instigated to make use of tomatoes as the prices of tomatoes have been slashed. The extraordinary idea to use tomatoes for the pandal is in protest as they have not been able to fetch a reasonable price. A kilo of tomatoes could not be sold for even five rupees. Hence they have even neglected in reaping the bumper harvest. Instead as a protest they had decided to erect a tomato pandal for Poson poya.
