DEATH AT WEDDING FUNCTION

    A FIVE YEAR OLD GIRL HAS SUCCUMBED TO BURN INJURIES SUSTAINED FROM A ‘BATTA’ FIRE CRACKER
It is reported from Minuwangoda area that a five year old girl, Avindya Weerasinghe had succumbed to death following internal injuries sustained by a ‘Batta’ fire cracker that had exploded on her. This has occurred at a residence in Negombo. At the end of the wedding function when the couple was about to leave and while she was standing about 20 feet away. A long line of ‘Batta’ fire crackers had been lit and very unfortunately one had been thrown at her body and exploded on her .She had been bleeding profusely and had died after admission to hospital.
According to reliable hospital sources, this had been a rare occurrence and had been due to negligence of the fire cracker manufacturer who had not adhered to proper standards in the manufacturing process.
