"We kept swords for protection of our daughters" -- president of Muslim Council

N.M.Ameen, president of Sri Lanka Muslim Council joined with a group of Muslim representatives and told the media briefing held in Colombo yesterday that swords were kept at mosques and houses particularly for the safety of girls.

This is how the president said referring to a statement by President Maithripala Sirisena that it is a custom to have a sword in every house and that therefore it is not justified that people be taken into
custody. "When over 1000 mosques were searched, there were swords at several places. Yesterday the President has said there is a sword in almost every house and that it is a custom of ours, for our safety, particularly for the safety of girls and that there is a sword in every house. Saying so he has told inspector general of police that it is not justified to take into custody".
