Vocalist Damith Asanka devoted to religion ... to jail, having become violent

Popular singer Damith Asanka has been taken into police custody and later jailed over an incident where he had become violent after being under liquor. He had in fact been arrested on a complaint made by his neighbours to the effect that he had comported himself aggressively after drinking at his home. Thus he was produced before courts and was ordered to be kept under remand

custody till October 6th. It was further ordered that the singer be directed to a psychiatrist after courts considered certain factors brought forward. Presently he is in remand at Moneragala Prisons.

Damith attained popularity for sometime for his fast-rhythm songs while sometime back he had mentioned that he would be bidding goodbye to the stage and that he would divert himself to spend his life towards religion. This is what Damith told a newspaper sometime back:

* It is noticed that you have been drawn towards religion ... isn't it so?

  From the past few years I have been engaged in Buddhist philosophy. I am more bent towards philosophy than religion. Philosophy should be studied first. In the same way I have a great desire to find out the truth in the universe. I am engaged in a study about that also.
