Student who emerged from among passengers to repair train which stopped in midst of jungle ... which technicians could not repair!

An incident was reported recently of a young boy who came forward on behalf of passengers ... providing help with the knowledge at his disposal.

The No. 4021 express train plying from Jaffna to Colombo was subjected to a technical fault last 19th and even railway technicians were not in a position to restore the fault with the train coming to halt in a jungle area known as Mahagalkadawala, causing great inconvenience to passengers. Though
railway technicians who arrived there strived to rectify the fault for about 45 minutes, their efforts had come to nought. As a result, the train had to be dragged up to Galgamuwa railway station with the aid of another railway engine and railway authorities informed passengers that facilities for their journey would be provided for them to make their journey from thereto Colombo Fort.

Among the passengers who were so stranded were foreigners with heavy luggage and other locals and they were all called upon to face results of this incident. On that occasion a student who happened to be among the passengers had come forward and ultimately rectified the fault and thus the train was able to move on its journey.

Incidentally it was a student by the name of Janith Dimantha Withaanarachchi who was following further studies at a private university after completed his education at Moratuwa Technical Institute. In the instance when the train had set off that day from Anuradhapura at 4.27 in the afternoon, it had faced a technical fault in the midst of a jungle area and in the circumstances what railway technicians were unable to put right, this student in just a matter of 20 minutes had successfully attended  to it. In fact he had volunteered by telling the technicians concerned that he would be able to repair what was wrong to which they had given their consent; thus giving him to try his hand at the job to bring it to a successful finish. Subsequently, all in all it was possible to proceed on the journey thereafter towards the destination. Railway officials as well as passengers did not fail to offer their gratitude to this student.
