Father waiting for son on bike...
struck by Batta vehicle and dies!

A motor cyclist who sustained serious injuries from a traffic accident close to Homagama Leyland Junction last morning later succumbed to his injuries.

At the moment of the accident the victim had parked his motor-bike opposite his house and was seated on it awaiting his son with the intention of dropping him to school. As a result of showers the previous day a Batta vehicle on the way had approached staggering on the slippery bend and had
gone beyond control and finally had knocked the parked motor-bike in which instance he had got thrown off from the bike all of a sudden as he had been facing the opposite direction. The Batta vehicle then runs over the victim who had then fallen by the roadside. It was only then that the Batta vehicle had come to a halt.

Later the driver who got down from his vehicle manages to stop a passing car and with help of people in the area sends the injured person to hospital. Subsequent to all this the driver of the Batta vehicle is seen assaulted by neighbours in the vicinity who rocked to the scene of the accident. The victim who was thus rushed to hospital had passed away in the meantime.

It however is a stroke of destiny that this accident which took place around 6.40 in the morning was recorded on the CCTV camera attached to the house of the deceased. The deceased is a 46 year old father of one child and is Kanatthage Priyantha Jayasiri by name and resident at Leyland Junction, Panagoda, Homagama and incidentally happens  to be employed at a private firm close to the same location.

The person who was the driver of the said lorry has been taken into custody under suspicion in connection with this accident and is expected to be produced before Homagama magistrate. CCTV recordings of the accident, from below
