'Polos melluma' is Dilshan's most favourite dish
- Manjula Thilini
Wife of T.M. Dilshan once again came into focus because of the incident where she wept in front of everyone on the day Dilshan, former captain of Sri Lanka cricket team bade farewell to Test cricket a few days ago. She is none other than Manjula Thilini who was a tele actress at one time. After her marriage to Dilshan about 5 years back, she has kept away from tele-acting and now is a mother of 3 children. Manula is the mother of 2 daughters and 1 son whose names begin with the Sinhala-sounding letter 'di' is staying at home attending to her duties and business activities. She has further told Sarasaviya newspaper that she prepares Dilshan's most favourite dish, the 'polos melluma'. The prediction about how Dilshan loses his temper and about how he predicts the number of runs he would score is revealed by her in he following manner:
*Tell us about the day when you became sentimental on the day Dilshan bade farewell to Sri Lankan Test cricket.
Actually ... that moment I'll never forget. Before Dilshan stopped playing cricket he asked me about it. Not only this decision ... we take decisions on every significant matter by discussing with each other. On this occasion too it happened that way. Though it was made known in advance ... that particular day the way Dilshan spoke ... I felt he gave that message to me first. His words were so genuine. Dilshan came to this level after so much dedication. I know everything about his life. Getting the opportunity to marry a person like Dilshan is indeed my luck. The wonder would be if at all I didn't get sentimental that moment!
*Usually ... before going for a match, what does he tell you?
He is able to predict as to how many runs he would score on that day.I can very well remember how he would get a hundred and how he would tell me beforehand that he would be making a century. Before he goes to play a match, I give him all my blessings to the best of my ability.
*From both of you ... who is it who loses the temper most?
It's Dilshan. I of course don't lose my temper to the extent that he does.Whatever it is ... when both of us lose our temper ... both of us keep quiet. But it's difficult for both of us to keep quiet like that for more than an hour.
*When at home ... what do you prepare and give Dilshan to eat?
He likes to eat 'polos mellum' very much ... so I prepare it and give him.
*Where now is this actress called Manjula Thilini?
Aney ... Dilshan also tells me that it's enough that I stayed like this ... and to get back to acting ... but it's I who backed out on this issue. If I get a good role ... I'll consider and see.
*Don't you think that your popularity has decreased because you kept away from acting for sometime?
It's like this ... though I don't go to the audience, I appeared in society as Dilshan's wife. On that level ... people know me. But some people talk about the tele-dramas I acted in such as Nilanjana and Sinduri even today.
*What about telling something about the tots in the Dilshan -- Manjula nest?
Our elder daughter is Resandi Linama ... she is 5 years old. The second is Lasadi Dihasansa ... she is three and a half years old and our son is Dihela Dinhath.
*The Sinhala letter sounding 'di' has been included in the names of all 3 babies. Is it because of Dilshan?
Definitely that's the reason. Those names were given by Mr. Ahubudu.
*It's 5 years now since you got married to Dilshan. How do you feel about that period?
Our love has not diminished even a wee bit. Dilshan is so anxious to come home running after finishing his duties. Like the time before marriage ... today also we live a simple life. I think that we both live happily and peacefully because of giving first place to our family life. In the same way ... whatever popularity is achieved, both of us live a simple life. That day ... in the presence of the media ... the media people who asked questions from Dilshan addressed him as Aiyye, Malliye. That type of brotherhood feeling is definitely because of the simplicity we have developed.
