Akuressa victim's unfortunate fate

Girl deflowered by Akuressa chairman ...
removed from second school too

The girl who was sexually molested by Akuressa PC chairman sometime back and which incident caused pandemonium during the past has had to face a most unfortunate tragedy and fate.

This girl who was a minor and was said to have been first raped by 2 young men and subsequently by the chairman of Akuressa PC had at that time been studying at a school in Akuressa area. However, as he was taken into custody as a result of media publicity given in the month of May, 2012; what fate later bestowed on her was most unfortunate. The girl was 14 years old at that time when the incident took place at a time she was on her way to school.

She no longer could remain in that school. She was not even able to live in that area. Some people thought that she had committed suicide. Actually most people were not aware as to what happened to after this mishap.

What had really happened was that she and her family had made a resolution to migrate to another area from where they had been living. The girl who is passing her 15th year in life and is studying in grade 9 is having hopes of sitting for her O/Ls next year and thus advance further in life. She had in fact thought of forgetting what took place in her life in the past and go forward by showing her colours in the field of education. However, even for that she has now had to face an unlucky fate.

From Akuressa she came to Bandarawela. She was able to gain admission to Kuda Kusum Balika Vidyalaya in Bandarawela and so began pursuing her education once more. No sooner she began her studies in the new school, last September 7th the principal who summoned the girl's mother had told the latter that there was something important to be told. What the principal said was that he has had threatening phone from Matara area asking him not to keep the child in school and that a decision should be taken in that respect. He had even made a suggestion that it would be wise to remove the child from the school, considering the protection of other students in the school. The behaviour by the principle at a time the mother was striving to mould the daughter's future on the right track was indeed a problem for the girl's mother  and the principal had finally suggested that the mother forward a letter signed by herself to the effect that she is removing her daughter at her own wish. The mother was compelled to give consent to this request because of the respect she had for him and the manner in which he gave the advice.

The mother finally came home with the daughter, having now fallen into deeper trouble. It was only when she came home that she had begun to consider this issue in the correct perspective. She then came to realise that she gave consent to accepting the leaving certificate which was issued by the principle, that she was removing her child on her own accord and that the whole thing was a false issue and that such a course of action was taken because of the unjustified decision made to her under strong influence. As a result she had to seek the assistance of the law. She has now prepared a petition detailing the whole episode, mentioning names of the principle of Bandarawela Kuda Kusum Balika Vidyalaya, Director of National Schools -- Isurupaya, Battaramulla, Secretary of the Ministry of Education and the Minister of Education as the respondents.

The daughter and the mother had forwarded a petition under human rights to courts yesterday (10) through a lawyer asking for a  compensation of 20 lakhs from the principal who had made an undue influence to remove her daughter from the school where she was studying.

The petition also requests that that an order be issued in a manner that the rights of her daughter who is expected to pursue her education in order to sit for her O/L examination in the year 2014 is protected.

The petition further requests that a full inquiry be made in this connection and to issue an order to relevant educational authorities until such an inquiry is over, the child be once more admitted to the same school or else to have her admitted to a suitable school at the earliest possible.

An inquiry into this matter will be conducted in the future.

The chairman who was involved in the crime is now free and is at home attending to his usual activities.

This innocent girl who had to keep a distance from society as a result of an unanticipated incident of sexual crime has now had to fight for her own basic rights too.
