A broad investigation has now been launched into whether the incident where a luxury Mercedes-Benz car crashed through the security wall of the official residence of the Iranian Ambassador in Colombo was merely a road accident, or a terrorist or extremist act.

The seriousness of this incident, which occurred in the early hours of October 31st, was revealed by the Cinnamon Gardens Police before Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva. The police informed the court that a thorough search was underway to determine if any explosives or suspicious devices were hidden inside the luxury car involved in the accident. The police stated that extensive investigations are being carried out with the assistance of the Government Analyst, the Bomb Disposal Unit of the Police Special Task Force, and the Police Canine Unit.

In connection with this incident, the 27-year-old driver, Mohamed Tariq Mansoor, who drove the car, and four suspects said to have been traveling in it, namely Mohamed Inham, Mayuran Kanagasundaram, and Mohamed Usman, were arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police and produced before the court.

However, when the case was called on the 2nd, the lawyers representing the suspects presented a different dimension to the court. They pointed out that it was merely an accidental road accident caused by the vehicle losing control. Furthermore, the lawyers informed the court that relatives of the suspects' families had already personally met and discussed the matter with the Iranian Ambassador in the country to clarify the true situation of the incident.

Considering all the facts presented, the Additional Magistrate ordered the release of the four arrested suspects on bail. However, to definitively ascertain the truth behind this incident, the Cinnamon Gardens Police were further ordered to report the progress of the investigations, including the Government Analyst's reports, to the court on the 30th of this month.
