Kassapa Thero was beaten by the police and taken to the hospital.

Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero, who was engaged in a continuous Satyagraha at the Viharamahadevi Park premises in Colombo, demanding the immediate release of Venerable Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thero, who is currently imprisoned, has been suddenly admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. This was due to an alleged assault that occurred amidst a highly volatile situation that arose at the Satyagraha site this afternoon (17).

According to reports, this tense situation arose from a heated argument between the group engaged in the Satyagraha and police officers who arrived at the scene, which escalated. This situation between the two parties turned into severe unrest, and the parties involved in the Satyagraha strongly accuse police officers of assaulting Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thero during the incident.

Following this incident, the groups remaining at the Satyagraha immediately took steps to call a 1990 Suwasariya ambulance to the location. Accordingly, they promptly arranged for Kassapa Thero, who had faced assault and unrest, to be hospitalized.

With this sudden conflict situation that arose at the Satyagraha site, which began with the aim of securing the release of Gnanasara Thero, security has now been tightened in Viharamahadevi Park and its surrounding areas. Strict security measures have been implemented throughout the relevant area, and it is also reported that a tense atmosphere continues to prevail there.
