Venerable Siri Samanthabhadra (Pitidūwe Siridhammā) made the following statement to the media today (18).
I recall King Kasyapa of Sigiriya; we have read history, and it is said that he killed his father. When he killed his father, a huge protest arose in the country, similar to the opposition faced by President Anura Kumara.
After that, King Kasyapa of Sigiriya thought that if these monks and Buddhists opposed him, he wouldn't be able to govern. So, King Kasyapa devised a plan. That plan was to bring a hundred monks to the palace and offer alms.
It is said that a hundred monks were invited, and they prepared to come. A hundred monks arrived. They stood in front of the royal palace. Standing there, one monk stood up, overturned his alms bowl, and said, 'We do not want the rice of the one who killed his father.' The remaining ninety-nine monks also overturned their alms bowls, performing the 'Patta Nikujjana Kamma' (act of overturning the alms bowl).
We invite all Venerable Monks at the village level. Those who slander, insult, and make false accusations against monks... Now, they said I have daughters, didn't they? Even today, I am waiting to give my DNA, waiting to prick this finger and give blood. There isn't a single one.
For all those false accusations, we must perform the 'Patta Nikujjana Kamma' again."
